Here we all with the most artistic, yet so sensational(reißerisch) and controversial music video ever, Rammstein: Deutschland. After a while, Rammstein finally appeared in the industry with a new album and Europe tour. Video directed by Specter Berlin. As for me, it was a unique experience to see all the taboo elements in such an artistic way. Even though most of the elements in the video are (kinda) banned in our generation in some ways, we were seeing those in movies(Inglourious Basterds) and games(Wolfenstein) with sarcastic taste. I never denied the existence of these elements, so for the people who are complaining about the way this video clip recorded is indeed ridiculous. Not because I am supporting the ideology, but being aware of the events by reminding the sarcastic and artistic way, it shouldn’t be an extreme conversational topic. Before we jump into details, take a look at the video:

16 AD, it refers to the troops of Germanicus finding the corpses of the Roman victims of the Varusschlacht hanging from the trees. But mainly, this is the scene for representing Die Varusschlacht aka Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, circa September 9 AD, located in Osnabrück County, Lower Saxony. According to Bahadir, the leitmotif is actually based on this wolf. He also argues about Valkyrie, the daughters of the god Odin might wandering around in the forest, and taking the dead souls away.
During the entire music video, we are seeing the red lasers. They might be added for Roten Faden folgen which it means `by following the thread`or `following the red lines`. YouTuber Get Germanized also mentioned `den Faden verlieren` as lose the thread.

In this scene, we are seeing a U-boat – German submarine, used in World Wars I and II. German astronauts carrying a metal and glass coffin next to U-boat in space? Or maybe for Sigmund Jähnö first German in space who actually flew with USSR?
Well, obviously, Germania in medieval time outfit with black, red and gold color to represent Germany.
This scene appears to some people as political instability during Weimar Germany (1918-1933). Like, they have so many things to worry but these events occurred as underground joy.
We are seeing East Germany here, so along with GDR leader Erich Honecker and all the busts of Marx and Lenin… I am not sure but lovely Flake Lorenz actually looks like Joseph Goebbels here. This might be the time after/before the Berlin wall fell(November 1961), economically crushed. I am not sure if this scene represents before the wall or after the wall. But both are very close time period so no matter which, it’s definitely GDR meeting. So along Stasi…
The band walking away from a flaming airship, referring to the 1937 Hindenburg Disaster, in which 36 people died. And this scene has to be only for Der rattenfänger von Hameln(Pied Piper of Hamelin). All the rats, in perfect line after them, to lure rats away but instead of the magic pipe, Jesus Christ on Till’s shoulder? Or not…
Jesselyn said about this brief moment that, these soldiers look like from the Colonial era which Germany was not involved with colonialism. Are they feasting over Germany? Because of this scene is so short and it’s immediately jumping to gross Monk feast. So, since Germania is a black woman, and colonialism was taking away from Africa, was this little moment can be for that message?
We know that now, rats did not lure at this point, just feast with them on Germania… Medieval monks feast on Germania by eating sauerkraut and sausage, rats all over the room. under the table, we are seeing people trapped. Jesselyn also mentioned that back in medieval time peasant used to donate food to the Monks. They were always well fed but people around them not.

To identify the prisoners, they were giving different cloth emblems. Like: a pink triangle for homosexual prisoners, a yellow star for Jewish prisoners, a red and yellow star for Jewish political prisoners. The weird thing is, during this crazy scene they are showing rocket launching which we all know Germany was doing innovations and experiments so much for the good and the bad. But yet again, very disturbing to think about what was happening to others while the other happing.
Since Deutschland Deutschland über alle(s)-everything is not a thing anymore, we are hearing Deutschland Deutschland über alle(n)-everyone… Some say this eye patch might represent Valkyrie – Assassinate. Or ‘auf dem linken / rechten Auge blind sein’ ignoring the danger of rightist/leftist. I have to say, These uniforms are literally so cool, I believe designed by Hugo Boss, but all you think when you see them is FEAR and DEATH. Btw, she is Gestapo(Geheime Staatspolizei) police now. Guys, yes, Holocaust shit was a disaster, but by them showing this doesn’t mean any disrespect or supportive image. This is the history, you can’t deny it.

Simplicity… Guys, this is a music video trying to show horrific things happened in some artistic way not to support the ideology instead be as sarcastic as possible, to sum up, everything to the audience. Be also aware that Rammstein is all about the dark theme in their songs and videos. I have been directly talked with German people about the music video, the ones that I talked indeed liked the video. Because there is literally no harm to the idea of the video. This is not propaganda! This is just a fucking music video. Lately, sensitivity for each taboo word, event, a person got mad. People are getting trigger by anything you said or you might say. And right after that, you will be tagged by them forever even though you might not even be meant any bad intention.
So, let them talk. Let them hate.
